Ah, Paris - the city of romance, French pastries, fine dining, and shopping! ? Whether you're walking down the Avenue des Champs-Élysées to peek into luxury boutiques (and grab a view of the Arc de Triomphe while you're at it), or visiting the chic independent stores in Rue de Passy or Rue Saint Honoré we guarantee you'll leave the city with a heavier luggage than when you arrived. But it's not cheap to take a trip to Paris - so what brands are most worth it to buy while you're there? Well, we've done some digging and come up with a list of brands that are cheaper in Paris than back home! Time to start saving up for an unforgettable shopping spree!

How is it cheaper?

Quite simply: VAT refunds for NON-EU citizens

For non-EU citizens shopping in Europe, savings can still be considered though as they will be eligible for a tax refund. Bear in mind that currency exchange rates, varying tax amounts, service fees, and any import duties the respective countries may have will affect the overall price paid, and in turn, money saved.

#HHWT Tip: Time your trip to coincide with Paris' summer and winter sales to get the best possible offers! Sales are regulated in France so these are the only 2 periods when you'll find brands having major discounts. The 2024 winter sale will run from 8 Jan 2024 - 6 Feb 2024 and you can expect longer shopping hours at major department stores and malls too. The summer sale is expected to run from 24 Jun 2023 - 21 Jul 2023.

So many luxury houses were founded in France that we just had to dedicate a section of this list to them. ? 18. Skincare

Before K-beauty and vegan beauty became the 'It' trends for skincare and cosmetics, there was French beauty! French skincare and cosmetic products have always had a good reputation worldwide for their reliability, as well as high-quality products that are suitable even for the driest, most sensitive skin.

P.S. Do check the ingredients list for any sensitive ingredients before purchasing. None of these brands are currently halal-certified, although they may have products that use Muslim-friendly ingredients. Do purchase at your own discretion.

Avene, Uriage and Biotherm are three such brands that are known for being gentle on the skin, and if you have sensitive skin with some very specific needs it's worth stocking up on their serums and moisturizers while you're in Paris! While they can be found at home too, the selections are limited compared to what's on display in Paris. So do your research before arriving, and head to their stores to pick up something you won't be able to find at home!

Vichy and La Roche-Posay are also on the radar for skincare enthusiasts worldwide. Both brands receive input from dermatologists during the formulation process, resulting in specific products that can target unique needs. It also helps that the water used by both brands has healing properties too! Vichy uses thermal spa water processed through volcanic rock, and La Roche-Posay uses thermal spring water from the French countryside.

Where to buy them: Many of these brands can be found in pharmacies or department stores across Paris. For budget-friendly options, there are discount pharmacies such as Citypharma, Pharmacie Monge, or Marionnaud but you can also head to major malls like Galeries Lafayette for a wider range of products. If you're visiting the city of love (or lights!), make sure to spend some time strolling through the Champs-Elysees and grand boulevards to take a look at the boutiques lining the streets. Even if you're just window shopping, we guarantee it'll be a magical experience - there's truly nowhere else like Paris!
