Surrounded by tropical rainforest and beautiful azure waters, Tioman Island (Pulau Tioman) is a great place to enjoy a sunny vacay. Following the news of Langkawi becoming the first pilot destination for Malaysia's COVID-19 Free Destination Program and Pangkor Island to reopen some time in early September, Tioman Island joins in the mix of destinations in Malaysia that is likely to open for travel in Q4 of 2021.

When will Tioman Island open for travel?

According to Edge Prop, the Pahang state government has plans to move forward with a proposal to reopen Tioman Island after 80% of the 3,500 people on the island have been fully vaccinated. As of July 2021, 83% of the residents have received their first dose of vaccination.

Menteri Besar of Pahang, Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, shared that the state is ready to impose regulations on tourists such as undergoing a screening test or any other standard operating procedures before entering Tioman Island. "Efforts to open up the tourism sector on the island are important for the survival of the islanders as the majority of them are industry players whether as boat drivers, chalet, or water activities operators or eatery owners," he said.

With the rate of vaccination in Pahang, the second phase of immunisation exercise for the people on the island will be held soon. This means a step closer to visiting Tioman Island with family and friends!
