Update: As of January 2021, Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No. 5 (TT5) is temporarily closed due to MCO (Movement Control Order). We recommend saving this attraction to your bucket list and visit when it's safe to do so.

Situated on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Perak is brimming with things to see, eat, and do. After you've visited Tasik Cermin in Ipoh and explore the sights and sounds of Taiping, here's another place that we're excited to show you!

Located in Batu Gajah, many stories await at Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No. 5(TT5) known as the last tin dredge in Malaysia. Back in the days, Perak was the wealthiest state in Malaysia following the tin rush that began in 1848. Here's a fun fact, did you know that Malaysia was the largest tin producer in the world in 1883?

After a RM4 million restoration in 2017, TT5 has been converted into a heritage museum complete with facilities such as a prayer room and visitor centre. Just a 40-minute drive from Ipoh, we recommend first-time visitors to participate in a TT5 Dredged Guided Tour where a guide will share everything from its fascinating history to tin mining process.

Once the tour ended, continue your experience with a hands-on lesson on tin panning, also known as dulang washing, where you'll learn how to separate the tin particles from soil or gravel. Remember to visit Anjung @ TT5, a gallery and visitor centre that displays tin dredge equipment and tin mining tools that were used back in the days.

Another interesting part about TT5 is the Instagrammable spots you can discover around the tin dredge! Whether you're taking photos with the colourful mailboxes or pretending to step off an old train with a vintage suitcase, it's all part of the fun and you'll leave with plenty of photos for your Instagram feed.

If you're looking for things to do in Taiping, head over to Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No. 5 (TT5) to learn more about the last tin dredge in Malaysia! After that, make sure to explore other amazing things to do in Taiping.
