Is 2022 the year of travel again? We think it might be! ? With the Malaysian government fully opening up the borders to fully vaccinated international travellers from 1st April, we’re excited to finally go on a much-needed vacay break ? If you're looking for some travel inspiration, we've compiled a list of countries that Malaysians can travel to now without having to quarantine upon arrival! 

SOP For Malaysians And Residents Living In Malaysia Who Intends To Travel Overseas

Before reading on, here are some guidelines you should take note of if you’re planning to travel. Fully vaccinated individuals can travel abroad from 11 October onwards without needing to apply for a MyTravelPass permit. Prior to returning home, all travellers have to undergo 2 swab tests - once before flying back and once upon arrival.

Travellers have to quarantine upon arrival back in Malaysia (5 days for boosted travellers, 7 days for double-vaccinated, and 10 days for partially vaccinated or unvaccinated travellers) and complete tests throughout the quarantine period, self-quarantine at home is allowed.

1. Singapore

This might be one of the most anticipated countries many have been waiting to visit! ? There’s been new activities popping up, so you definitely have to make a trip back to the island soon! If you need a little guide, we’ve compiled a list of 10 New Attractions, Halal Eateries, Experiences & Hotels In Singapore For Your 2022 Trip! While you do not have to quarantine upon arrival, you’ll be required to do a pre-departure PCR test or professionally administered ART within two days of your flight, and do a supervised self-administered ART at a test centre within 24 hours of arrival in Singapore.

Picturesque islands. ?️ Golden with swaying palms. Halal amazing Thai food on offer. ?️ Thailandhas long been the go-to destination for those looking for a much-needed tropical break. From February 1st 2022, their “Test-&-Go” quarantine-free entry to Thailand will be made available to applicants of all nationalities, including Malaysians! There are a couple of rules you must follow if you’re heading to the Land of Smiles. You must have a  pre-departure PCR test that’s negative within 72 hours before travelling. You must also book an approved SHA+ or AQ (Alternative Quarantine) hotel for your first day in Thailand. Check out this link for more information.

3. Bali, Indonesia

Oh, Bali... the land of gorgeous beaches, rich culture and scenic nature spots! There's no denying that this Indonesian island is magical even with throngs of tourists visiting it all the time ? On 7 March 2022, the Indonesian government applied for a quarantine-free trial period and a Visa On Arrival (VOA) program for 23 selected countries, including Malaysia. Travellers must take two PCR tests, one before arriving and another one on their third day. You must also show proof of confirmation of booking and payment for tour packages or lodging accommodation, for a minimum of 4  days in Bali, downloaded PeduliLindungi app and filled out the Indonesian e-HAC. 4. Cambodia

If you’re looking for a less touristy area so that you can fully immerse yourself in the travel experience with little crowds, you definitely have to put Cambodia on your travel bucket list! 5. Maldives

From crystal clear water and sandy beaches to delicious halal cuisine and friendly locals, it’s no surprise why it is one of the best tropical island destinations in the world, be it for a romantic getaway or a family vacation ? The Maldives is currently open to all international visitors quarantine-free as long as you present proof of a negative PCR test between the 3rd and 5th day of your arrival. You also need to bring along a signed health declaration form within 48 hours prior to your flight time (you can check it out right here). Most of their resorts sit on private and uninhabited islands, so all guests stay within private island bubbles, separate from local communities and tourists in other properties, so rest assured, you’ll have a safe and peaceful vacay! 

6. Nepal

Wedged between two colossal countries, Nepal is a creation of its own. It is the quintessential destination for both the laid-back travellers and those who are itching to hike up the Himalayas! ?Simply show proof that you’re fully vaccinated or produce a negative PCR test completed no more than 72 hours prior to departure. You also have to fill up the online International Travel Arrival form, and purchase a travel insurance plan that provides full coverage during your trip, including Covid-19! 

7. Sri Lanka

This is also another underrated destination you have to check out! ? With increasing Muslim tours in Sri Lanka, whisk yourself away from the hustle and bustle of the city and into the serene landscape of this beautiful destination. Guaranteeing a laid-back and easy-going holiday for the busy folks, there are many sights and sounds to discover when you’re here in Sri Lanka. Currently, Sri Lanka does not need proof of a negative Covid-19 test (and of course, it’s quarantine-free!), but you do need to fill up their health declaration form before entering the country. 8. Vietnam

Add Vietnam to your bucket list! It packs on a whole lot of adventure, history, culture and of course, their famed pho and other Muslim-friendly food ? Vietnam announced last week that it will be reopening borders to international tourists from 15 March 2022! Apart from providing proof of a negative Covid-19 test prior to departure and another test upon arrival, you do have to self-quarantine for just one day while waiting for your test results. You also have to  download the PC-COVID app. However, do note that their rules may change according to Vietnam’s current pandemic situation, so keep yourself updated via this link.

Europe

9. Ireland

Welcoming and wonderfully rich in culture, Ireland is truly a dreamy destination you should go to! You'll love its friendly people, fascinating histories and its rugged, romantic landscapes ☺️ According to the Irish government, travellers to Ireland from 6 March 2022 onwards, are not required to show proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or a negative PCR test result upon arrival. However, it is highly advised that you are fully vaccinated. You’ll also be able to enter the country quarantine-free! If you do develop Covid-19 symptoms while in Ireland, you are required to follow their guidelines in relation to isolation and take either an ART or PCR test. 

10. Iceland

The land of ice and fire certainly doesn't disappoint with the stunning Northern Lights, majestic mountains, waterfalls, glaciers and more! ?As long as you’re fully vaccinated, you can be on your way for a dip in the Blue Lagoon or a Northern Lights chase! 11. Turkey

Before you start planning for your trip to Turkey, here are some Covid-19 rules you need to know. Those who are not vaccinated will have to present results of a negative COVID-19 swab test, while fully vaccinated travellers will simply have to present their vaccination certificate to be allowed entry. 12. France

Now you can travel to the City of Love quarantine-free as long as you’re fully vaccinated! And no pre-departure or on-arrival tests are needed for fully vaccinated travellers as well. 13. Switzerland

Switzerland is definitely one of those evergreen destinations that'll we’re always looking forward to visiting! Blessed with dramatic snow-capped mountains, picturesque century-old towns, scenic train rides and more, there’s a great adventure that only an ultimate Swiss getaway can tell! Before you read on, here are some updates on the VTL you should take note of before flying over to this beautiful country. 

International travellers, including Malaysians, who have been fully vaccinated will no longer be required to present a negative PCR or rapid antigen test (ART) before entering Switzerland. You also do not need to self-quarantine once you reach Switzerland! 14. United Kingdom

The United Kingdom is one of Western Europe's classic destinations full of stunning landscapes, exciting attractions, rich culture and more. It's a place that guarantees an amazing holiday whether you're visiting with family, friends or your other half. If you're planning a future getaway here, take note that you need to provide proof of vaccination and a completed passenger locator form online here 3 days prior to your arrival.

15. Spain

You already know which country we’re describing: Spain! ? incredible cultural splendour that promises travellers the best of old and new! All international are allowed to enter Spain regardless of vaccination status. There is no requirement to provide proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test, and self-quarantine is not required upon arrival. You do however need to complete and send the Health Control Form 48 hours before your arrival.  

Middle East

16. United Arab Emirates (UAE)

If you’re planning to visit the United Arab Emirates, here are a few rules you need to adhere to ? Fully vaccinated travellers must present their vaccination certificate which consists of a QR code. You don’t need need to show proof of a negative PCR test or self-quarantine. There are different rules for different cities in UAE, such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi, so check out this website here for more information. 

17. Saudi Arabia

If you’re planning to do your hajj this year, you definitely can! ? The kingdom relaxes its Covid-19 restrictions by discountinung the need for fully vaccinated travellers to take a pre-departure PCR or antigen test on arrival. Face masks are also not required in outdoor places, and social-distancing measures have been relaxed. However, you do need to register your details via the online Registration Immunisation Information Form here. You must also download the Tawwakalna app, as it’s required for entry to many public places in the kingdom, including shopping malls, cinemas, restaurants and entertainment venues. 

Oceania

18. Australia

Brimming with bustling cities, stunning landscapes, and friendly locals, it’s no wonder why Australia is one of our favorite Muslim-friendly destinations in the world. They have finally relaxed their strict border controls and travel restrictions on 21 February 2022. All nationalities including Malaysians are allowed to enter the country quarantine-free! PCR tests are required prior to your departure and arrival, and you’re also required to fill up the Digital passenger Declaration form, which you can find it here, and submit it 72 hours prior to your flight.

19. New Zealand

The New Zealand Government has just announced today that New Zealand's borders will reopen on May 1st this year! ? In order to head over, however, you will need to be fully vaccinated and have had a negative pre-departure test. On the day of arrival, you will also need to take an Antigen Rapid Test (ART) and get a negative result. This test will also be required on day 5 or 6 of your arrival.

Africa

20. Mauritius

Since Mauritius is famous for its stunning beaches and luxury resorts, a trip to this subtropical country promises a getaway unlike any other ? Mauritius reopens to vaccinated international travellers starting from 12 March 2022. For vaccinated tourists, you do not need to present a negative PCR test before flying to Mauritius, however, you must arrange for Covid-19 insurance health coverage as well as take another PCR test upon arrival and on day five of your stay. And yes, no quarantine needed! But unvaccinated tourists must stay at an official quarantine hotel for 14 days before you're free to explore the island. 21. Egypt

Home of magnificent pyramids, beautiful architecture, delicious Egyptian food, and of course the birthplace of Liverpool’s striker Mohammed Salah, it’s truly a destination Muslim travellers have to add to their bucket list ? Egypt is currently open to incoming travellers quarantine-free! You simply need to fill up this online health care declaration form before arrival. Fully vaccinated tourists are also exempted from testing requirements, while unvaccinated travellers must submit proof of a negative PCR test report taken within 72 hours before departure.

North America

22. Canada

Canada has the perfect mix of nature and cosmopolitan, which is definitely suited to us city-dwellers who can’t give up the city life, but crave a much-needed break now and then! ? While they allow quarantine-free travel for international visitors, you do need to submit proof of a negative PCR test 72 hours before your departure, sign up for an ArriveCan account and a quarantine plan. South America

For now, international travellers, regardless of their vaccination status and purpose of travel can enter Mexico quarantine-free.

You do not need to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test or antigen result when you enter the country. However, you are reminded to follow Health Travel Guidance as well as local and state advisories regarding COVID-19. You do have to fill up the Entry Immigration Form before entering the country.
