Situated off the coast of Perak, Pulau Pangkor (Pangkor Island) is one of the best beach destinations in Malaysia. With swaying coconut trees and lapping waves, it's an amazing destination for family trips, weekend getaways, and romantic staycations. Following the news of Langkawi becoming the first pilot destination for Malaysia's COVID-19 Free Destination Program, Pangkor Island is now set to be the next island destination to reopen in the Q4 2021.

Pangkor Island To Reopen In September

According to Tourism Malaysia, the Ministry Of Tourism, Arts & Culture (MOTAC) has begun the second phase of the Tourism Recovery Plan in Pangkor Island, Perak. With plans of speeding up the COVID-19 vaccine rollout by doubling Pangkor’s inoculation rate to at least 500 people daily, they are expected to reach the target of 80% of the group's immunity level by early September this year.

As of July 2021, a total of 1,002 residents in Pangkor Island have received their first dose while 1,056 people have completed their vaccination with two doses. For live updates on COVID-19 cases in Pangkor Island, refer to Malaysia Kini's COVID-19 News Lab.
