The best way to travel to Okayama
- Going to Okayama from Jakarta or Kuala Lumpur is easier than you think!
- Fly into Haneda Airport (Tokyo) or Kansai International Airport (Osaka), the two nearest major international hubs.
- From Haneda, you can hop on a connecting flight to Okayama Airport, just a short journey away.
- If you’re arriving in Osaka, you can take a 55-minute journey train ride.
- Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by the charm of Okayama’s lush landscapes, cultural attractions, and warm hospitality. Start your adventure seamlessly and explore this beautiful prefecture with ease!
Day 1: Welcome to Okayama City
Check into Hotel Granvia Okayama

- We recommend staying at Hotel Granvia Okayama—it’s just a breezy 5-minute walk from Okayama Station!
- There’s even a direct walkway (on Level 2) connecting the station to the hotel.
- They also offer Family Deluxe Rooms, which can fit up to 7 people. Perfect for big families travelling together.
- Hotel Granvia also goes above and beyond for Muslim guests. You can request a prayer mat and compass during check-in. Simply return it when you check out—how thoughtful is that?
#HHWTTip: Even if you’re not staying at the hotel, you can still access the prayer room on Level 2. Just head to the lobby and let the friendly staff know. Do bring your own prayer garments and use the nearby toilet for wudhu. It’s such a considerate service from the hotel!

The Peach Mark is your guide to Muslim-friendly spots in Okayama City, Kibichuo Town, and Maniwa City! Found in certified restaurants, hotels, and shops, it highlights places with English menus, ingredient lists, and dishes free from alcohol and pork.
Why a peach? It’s Okayama’s signature fruit and a nod to Momotaro, the legendary Peach Boy from local folklore. Sweet, right? 🍑✨ Keep a look out for these logos at restaurants, hotels and shops!

Morning: Explore Okayama Castle and Korakuen Garden

- Step into history at Okayama Castle, a must-visit landmark known as the "Crow Castle" for its striking black exterior.
- This iconic structure offers a blend of traditional charm with panoramic views from the top.

- Don’t miss the nearby Korakuen Garden, one of Japan’s most beautiful landscaped gardens.

- Okayama Castle isn’t just about exhibits and replicas—it’s all about hands-on fun!
- One of the coolest things you can do here is try on a kimono—and guess what? It’s completely free!
- Do note that kids’ kimono is currently under maintenance. We will update this article once they are available again. But, don’t worry, the adults’ kimono is available.
- Here’s the timing for kimono sessions: 9:30am to 4pm (Last admission: 3:30pm). 12 groups/day, 30 minutes for one group. No reservation available
Lunch at Okinoshima Ramen

- Refuel at Okinoshima Ramen, a Muslim-friendly ramen spot beloved by locals.
- Savour their clam soup ramen topped with halal-certified chicken and a dash of Indonesian Bon Cabe chilli for a spicy twist!
Halal status: The restaurant used halal-certified meat, no alcohol and no pork. They also used dedicated plates for Muslim diners.

Afternoon: Peach-picking at Tomomien Fruit Farm

- Get ready for the sweetest highlight of your Okayama trip—peach-picking! Okayama is famous for its heavenly white peaches, known for their juicy sweetness.
- Summer (July-August) is prime peach season, and head over to Tomomien Fruit Farm to pick and taste these local treasures.
- There are 20 types of white peaches grown here. Be sure to try the Shimizu-Hakuto, a prized variety exclusive to Okayama!
- Peaches are covered to protect them from insects and to find the ripe ones, you just look for a pink tinge under the cover.
- Once picked, they need 2-3 days to ripen fully, and you’ll know they’re ready when you catch their delightful fragrance.
- Before leaving, do try the peach ice cream from the farm store. It’s the perfect way to cool off after the peach-picking session.
#HHWTtip: If you’re into grape-picking, the season starts in September!
Halal Status: Animal derivative ingredients might be used in emulsifiers in the ice cream. We recommend you verify with the vendor first.

Dinner at Milenga

- Head over to Milenga for Indian cuisine where you can find a variety of biryani, chapati, dosa, tandoori and more.
- We recommend getting the Thali set as it lets you sample all the different curries with biryani. There are free refills of rice too!
Halal status: Halal-certified (by Japan Islamic Trust), prayer facilities in the establishment.

- Indulge in authentic Japanese hot pot at Hitori Nabe Megu, which serves halal sukiyaki prepared without alcohol.
- Bet you never thought you could find halal sukiyaki and shabu-shabu in Okayama!
- Megu serves halal meat, including halal beef (upon request).
- Their Muslim-friendly menu only consists of sukiyaki (sweet soy sauce broth) or shabu-shabu set.
- You can request to do your prayers here too, but rooms are subject to availability. Alternatively, you can pray in your own room after you’re done with your meal. Do bring your own prayer mat and garments!
Halal status: Halal-certified meat is available. Do note that pork is sold in the establishment but we’ve checked that the kitchenware and utensils for halal meat are clearly labelled and halal meat is strictly stored separately from non-halal meat. Do note that alcohol is served to other customers in the restaurant but the eating area is separated. We advise you to dine at your own discretion.

- Kids will love the Hiruzen Kids Snow Park, with fun snow slides and safe play areas.
- Snowshoe trekking is recommended for snow beginners.
- Rentals are available, so you don’t need to pack gear.
