If there's one place that we miss dearly during the pandemic, it's Korea! Lucky for us, there are many halal Korean restaurants in Singapore. Wondering where to find authentic halal Korean food during Phase 2 HA? One home-based business takes its Korean food up a notch. We're talking about Meokja (먹자 by J U N G G A) which was started by a Korean-Muslim revert in Singapore.

Authentic halal Korean food in Singapore by a Korean-Muslim revert

Meokja's Chef and founder is Jung SangWoo, a Korean-Muslim revert. Having been in Singapore for a while and assimilating into the culture of Muslims here, he realised that many Muslims were not able to experience authentic halal Korean food. Hence, he decided to start a home-based business to raise awareness of what authentic Korean food should taste like, using only halal ingredients. Fun fact: meokja means "Let's Eat" in Korean ?

At Meokja, you can order a range of top favourite Korean dishes such as Budae Jjigae. Also known as Army Stew, this tangy and savoury stew packs a punch with kimchi, sausages, tofu and enoki mushrooms. If you're a fan of stews, you'd also love their Doenjang Jjigae (soybean paste stew) and Jjamppong (rich and spicy seafood soup with noodles).

Fans of Korean food would know how important side dishes (banchan) are in Korean cuisine. For a scrumptious taste of banchan, you can order the Bapsang, rice accompanied by egg rolls, rice cakes, stir-fried kimchi and braised chicken ?

While Meokja serves familiar Korean favourites like Jjajangmyeon (noodles in black bean sauce), it also has lesser-known Korean dishes like Tangsuyuk. This crispy and chewy fried chicken dish in sweet and sour apple sauce is definitely a must-try.

What's great about Meokja are their sets which let you try their different dishes at a bundled price. Get the JjamJja Set for jjajangmyeon and jjamppong or choose to have doenjang jjigae and budae jjigae with bapsang. The Jjajang and Jjampong sets also come with tangsuyuk and Korean pickled dishes.
