For Muslims, Ramadan is considered to be a holy and blessed month. It also happened to be the one time in the year that families gather together for communal dining everyday. ? The spirit of family and togetherness only proves to get stronger during Ramadan. If you’re hoping to give back to the community this year and help less fortunate families, Raikan Cahaya Ramadan 2023 is a charity event in Arab Street that will feature a Mass Iftar (break fast) session, busking performances and a special guest appearance by Minister Desmond Lee!

Raikan Cahaya Ramadan 2023

Happening for one night only on 1 April 2023 from 5:30pm to 9:30pm, Raikan Cahaya Ramadan 2023 is back for its third year since its beginning in 2021. Arab Street will be closed to the public during the exclusive event. For the first time in a long time, the event will host a Mass Iftar with 200 tables (approximately 1200 people). This event is the only Mass Iftar curated in Kampong Gelam since 2019 in conjunction with Raikan Cahaya Ramadan. You can look forward to community initiative in raising funds for charity and invitations of beneficiaries to break fast at Arab Street together! ?
P.S. In celebration of Raikan Cahaya Ramadan 2023, there will be road closures. Attendees are strongly encouraged to take public transport instead of personal vehicles for safety reasons.
What to expect

As we all may already know, the purpose of Iftar or break fast is for a lavish feast, but as a way to for spiritual fulfilment. This is why sharing the food with the less fortunate is such an important facet of the feast. It is encouraged to reach out to the less fortunate and make sure that they are also included, especially in a community gathering.
That’s why at this Mass Iftar, not only can you purchase a table for your family, you can also pay-it-forward by purchasing a table for low income families as well! You can purchase a single seat for $100/seat or a whole table for $480 (of 6 pax). You can attend the Mass Iftar of sponsor beneficiaries to attend! There are tiers for sponsors who purchase tables as well – Tier 1 for $10,000 and Tier 2 for $5,000.
P.S. The rain or shine event is set to open its registration at 5:30pm!
Keeping things traditional, the experience will entitle up to 1200 diners to a hearty course of familiar Malay food favourites (Nasi Ambeng, Kuih-muih platters and more) with 2 Coca-Cola coolers serving a supply of favourite drinks. As part of Coca-Cola’s dedication to give back to local communities, the company will also be sponsoring gifts such as dining vouchers and merchandise for the aforementioned beneficiaries.
Additionally, One Kampong Gelam has also roped in Vision21 and Travelconnect.sg a welfare society committed to helping families break out of the poverty cycle, and Muslim travel-focused agency, TravelConnect.sg to donate Ramadhan Groceries Bag & Hari Raya Cookies for key beneficiaries of the Mass Iftar - all to aid the less fortunate families to prepare for their very own celebrations at home

There will be exciting busking performances during the event and a spread of halal food for break fast. ? Not to mention, the Guest of Honour will be Minister Desmond Lee, the Minister for National Development & Minister-in-charge of Social Services Integration.
