Is It Safe To Travel To United Kingdom Right Now?

In light of recent riots across the United Kingdom following the stabbing deaths of three girls during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport on July 29, concerns about safety have risen. Malaysia has issued a travel warning for its citizens, urging them to stay away from protest areas and remain vigilant.

The riots, which have erupted in cities like Middlesbrough and Liverpool, have led to violence and unrest, with several injuries reported.

Among the countries which have sent out alerts are Singapore, Australia, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, India and Nigeria.

The Singapore High Commission in London also said on Aug 4 that it is monitoring the situation in the United Kingdom.

“Singaporeans residing in or travelling to the United Kingdom are urged to stay vigilant and avoid the affected areas where possible,” it said on X, formerly Twitter.

UK authorities, including Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, have vowed to take strong action against those involved. Travellers are advised to monitor updates from local authorities and exercise caution while in the UK.

We've reached out to #HHWTexplorer Adlynn Diyana who lives in Birmingham and she said that the situation has died down a lot since the counter-protest.

"In Birmingham, things seem to have gone back to normal," she said. She added that her friend, who lived in the city centre, said that they did not see any person of colour or Muslims when the riots first happened.

"Birmingham is one of the most diverse cities in the UK," said Adlynn.
