Oh and did we mention you’ll be dining over water? :)

We’ve found a hidden gem.

Welcome to Bale Udang Mang Engking Restaurant! :D You have to visit this restaurant, especially if you’re looking for a place that makes you feel like you’re truly in Bali!

To be honest, we were a little skeptical as the restaurant looked like a tourist trap. But we’re glad to share that our lunch at Bale Udang Mang Engking Restaurant was one of the best meals we had during our Bali vacation!

Behold, our delicious lunch spread!

We highly recommend the Ayam Bakar Kintamani (grilled chicken with sweet and hot sauce)! The dish was slightly spicy with just the right amount of sweetness. As the chicken was grilled, the meat was pretty tender and went really well with the sweet and hot sauce. Plus, you can never go wrong with one of their signature dishes :)

We bet you thought this is coconut juice. Nope! It’s actually Sup Udang Kelapa Muda (prawn soup with mushroom in young coconut)! This soup reminds us of Tom Yum soup but a sweeter and lighter version. We definitely recommend this too!

We also had Cumi Bakar Madu (grilled squid with honey sauce) which was grilled to perfection. The honey sauce drizzled on top was just the right amount of sweetness and enhanced the natural sweetness of the squid. So, so good! Our only complaint is the small portion but then again, we have big appetites :D

The last main dish we had was the Udang Bakar Madu Standar (honey grilled prawns). As with the squid, the honey went really well with this dish. Unfortunately, the prawns weren’t as fresh as we would like. Perhaps the honey grilled jumbo prawns would have been better!

No matter how full you are, there’s always room for dessert, right? :) We had to try the highly raved Pisang Goreng Keju (deep fried banana with cheese and caramel sauce) and it was soooooo yummy! Who would have guessed that goreng pisang would go so well with cheese and caramel sauce. If you have a sweet tooth, this would be the perfect dish to satisfy your craving!

#HHWT Tip: If you’re travelling with a bigger group, do order the set meals for 4 or 6 people! You’ll be able to enjoy a variety of dishes at a cheaper price. We ordered ala carte dishes for lunch because we were afraid we wouldn’t be able to finish it.

If you’re wondering how we got here, we had a driver, Dewa, who took us wherever we wanted to go. We highly recommend getting around Bali with a driver because the roads are confusing to navigate. If you don’t know where to go, ask the driver for recommendations on sightseeing spots! We highly recommend our driver, Dewa, who was really friendly, helpful and shared lots of interesting facts of Bali. You can drop him an email regarding his availability and rates:

P.S. Dewa’s hometown is in Ubud so he’s the perfect guide if you want to visit Ubud (which we highly recommend!).
