There's nothing like going for a scrumptious brunch on a weekend and hanging out with your friends. Fortunately in Singapore, the halal cafe scene is booming and it's not a challenge to find a good halal cafe. The good news is you don't always have to come to the Kampong Gelam area to find halal cafes. If you're an east sider and are always on the lookout for halal food in the east, we've got you covered! Here are 10 halal cafes in the east of Singapore for your weekend brunch.

1. Dutch Colony Coffee Co.

Run by the Dutch Colony Coffee Company which also has a roastery and coffee academy in Singapore, the cafe's Western and local fusion dishes are plated to perfection, and they're most known for their all-day breakfasts! Try the House Pancakes and Shabsouka & Soft-Boiled Egg Toast. But if that's not enough for you, the Hearty Breakfast Platter and Guac & Soft-Boiled Egg Toast are hot favourites too. Of course, if you love coffee, you should definitely try their filtered coffee. Their only outlet in the east is at Frankel Ave but good news, Dutch Colony is opening at outlet in Tampines soon!

Halal status: We've confirmed with a Director in the company that the company is partially Muslim-owned, and all espresso brands are halal-certified by MUIS. All ingredients used across all outlets are halal-certified, and items including cakes and pastries are from halal-certified kitchens and/or halal-certified sources.

2. Penny University

A cozy cafe along East Coast Road, Penny University has been serving quality food, coffee, cakes and pastries to residents in the area. Their brunch menu is available from 8AM-4PM so you can wake up to their Full English Breakfast or tuck into their delicious Eggs Benedict. Looking for something heartier? Their Steak Frites and Moroccan Baked Eggs will suit you just fine ? If you're in need of coffee, their Muddy Espresso with Cold Milk is a treat!

3. Alto Cafe

Tucked all the way inside Bayshore Park condominium, Alto Cafe has a botanical-themed interior for those of you who love plants. Their recipes are curated from experiences they've had on their travels. You can enjoy their "All-Day Brekkie" with scrumptious options like Runny Benny, the usual brunch fare with 2 poached eggs, hollandaise sauce and turkey ham. Or have the sweet and savoury Belgian waffle, scrambled eggs and a protein of your choice. Don't miss out on the croissantwich, open toasts and shakshouka too.

4. The Wonderment Collective

The Wonderment Collective is a Muslim-owned cafe-boutique that opened its doors to its flagship store in Geylang in September 2020. It's the perfect spot for a classy and elegant afternoon tea or halal brunch! Check out their Saturday Breakfast and TWC Weekday Breakfast so you can savour yummy breakfast platters, French toast, berry pancakes and more. Do remember to make your reservations as their cafe has limited seats and it's super popular!

5. The Jelly Hearts Cafe

Serving Singapore's first and original jelly cheesecake, The Jelly Hearts opened their cafe at Downtown East late last year. Besides their usual jelly cheesecake, what's great is that you can expect more desserts and coffee at their Downtown East cafe! For a post-meal treat, you can savour their waffles with gelato, or have a muffin and latte to go with your desserts. They have also started serving high tea too.

6. The Co-op Tampines

Looking for somewhere to chill out with scrumptious mains? Head over to The Co-op Tampines! Run by The Black Hole Group that's behind your favourite cafes like Working Title Burger Bar and Tipo, The Co-Op's menu has dishes from a variety of cuisines! Their Wagyu Beef Burger and Cajun Chicken Burger are juicy and tender. For an interesting twist, choose from pastas like Spicy Umami Prawn and Smoked Duck Carbonar!

7. Craze Kitchen

Craze Kitchen serves up generous portions that are worth their price ? Finding affordable halal Western dishes can be a bit of a challenge in Singapore, but Craze makes it easy with classics such as Fish & Chips and fusion options like Sambal Chicken Paella.

9. Three's A Crowd

Three's A Crowd cafe specialises in handcrafted ice-cream, homemade waffles, cakes and milkshakes ? Their ondeh waffles with coconut ice-cream is a crowd-pleaser. The best part? It's topped with homemade gula melaka sauce with coconut shavings, making every bite a treat. We hear their churros waffles are exceptional too! 10. Kraft Kitchen

Who doesn't love affordable comfort food? And Kraft Kitchen delivers just that! Tucked all the way in Tampines West, Kraft Kitchen specialises in pot pies, stews, steaks and pasta. Their beef rendang pot pie is a favourite, with a crusty pastry and yummy beef rendang while their Cajun Seafood Pot is also a real treat. If you're a fan of meats, be sure to try their featherblade steak which you can choose to have with cream baked rice too. For desserts, try their omakase chocolate dome, espresso iced cubes and toasted marshmallow coffee!
