Singaporeans' love for food is undeniable and Japanese cuisine has always been one of our top picks. Lucky for us, we have a wide range of eateries offering authentic Japanese cuisine which means we don't have to travel to Japan just to savour their food. ? And here to spice up our Halal food scene is Fu-Men! Reigning from Hakata, a district in Fukuoka, this newly Halal-certified eatery is a rare gem. Hakata udon is mostly only found in Japan which means it's rare that you find it in other parts of the world, much less in Singapore. And the fact that it's halal makes it all the better ?

Plus, there's no questioning the quality of food here. The restaurant's founder is Chef Teppei Yamashita, born in Fukuoka, and known for his famous Teppei Japanese Restaurant in Singapore. He heads over 15 food outlets but this is his first Halal-certified one, so we're definitely in for a treat! ?

Our top pick is Fu-Men's signature udon, the Gobo Ten! This Burdock Tempura Udon is native to Fukuoka and is made up of crunchy and sweet burdock (a type of root vegetable) coated in tempura batter, then fried to perfection. You can choose to have it with soup or dry. If you decide on the latter, you have the added option of choosing either hot or cold udon. ?

We'd personally recommend going for the soup version as the broth here is on another level. The broth takes over 45 minutes to make as it requires rigorous temperature control. Plus, it is preservative-free and filled with Japanese kelp, Japanese anchovies, saba, tuna, and sardine for a layered and savoury taste! ?

Don't stop there though. They have so many other variations including Tsukemen (Dipping Noodles). The Duck Tsukemen is worth a try with its chewy noodles topped with generous slices of tender duck meat and a soft onsen egg. The noodles are served cold so that they won't get soggy, but the dipping sauce's rich flavour makes it a truly memorable meal you'll fall in love with. ? While the Duck Tsukemen isn't available at the moment, they have Beef and Chicken Tsukemen too!

#HHWT Tip: The bowls come in regular and half-sized portions for when you're not feeling too hungry. The regular portion is quite generous, so you can even consider splitting a bowl with a friend!

Now if you're looking for something that blends both Japanese and Singaporean cuisine, their White Laksa Udon would pretty much take the cake. It's the same, yummy udon filled with rich laksa gravy, topped with fresh prawns.

#HHWT Tip: You can also add free toppings to your bowl once it arrives, including tempura bits, ginger, green onions, and chilli flakes! ? The ginger really adds a spicy kick that brings out the broth, and the tempura bits give it a crunch that will feel super satisfying.

Don't forget to try their donburi rice bowls too. The Stamina Don is a meat lover's dream and comes topped with beef tendon, sliced beef, and spicy minced chicken! And of course, they have classic options like Prawn Tempura Udon, Oyakodon, and Beef Udon too.

Helmed by a native Japanese chef, this restaurant is definitely not to be missed! And their reasonable prices are a total steal ? Let a foodie know - it's time for a trip here!
