1. Fishing Buddies

For RM100 per person, Fishing Buddies has a package that guarantees a minimum of 5 strikes an hour or you get your money back! If you're a first-timer, it's a great way to practice reeling 8kg fishes non-stop, learn to control the fishes, and test out new gear. If you prefer to practice lure fishing, you can pay RM50 for a full day of fishing where only artificial lures are allowed.

2. Empangan Air Kuning

Update: As of March 2021, Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam is temporarily closed until further notice

For fly fishing in Selangor, make your way to Empangan Air Kuning! Nestled in Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam, this small dam is well-stocked with fishes. If fly fishing is not your cup of tea, this park is also suitable for lure fishing. Do note that there is an entry limit of 20 people a day. We recommend making an appointment with manager Mr Nik, or one of the staff members Mr Mustafa (known fondly as Tapa) before your visit.

Target species: Pacu, Toman, Haruan

3. LS Fishing Pond

What sets LS Fishing Pond apart from the other fishing ponds in Selangor is the possibility of catching a Goliath Grouper. Word on the street is that there’s a 100kg monster lurking at the bottom of the water! Even if you don’t snag that massive prize, the fishes in LS Pond are bigger than other paid ponds out there. Therefore, it’s the perfect place to score big saltwater game fishes!

Target species: Goliath groupers, Hybrid Groupers, Threadfins, Mangrove Jacks, Giant Trevally, Barramundi

4. Hulu Langat Fishing Resort (Catch and Release)

Hulu Langat Fishing Resort resembles Bungsamran fishing park in Thailand and you can book a private chalet that comes with a private platform to fish from. It's ideal for family trips and has a serene atmosphere too. The staff are also very helpful and if you have trouble making a catch, they’ll assist until you get a couple of strikes. Generally, the prized Siamese Carp can range from 20-25 kgs whereas the Mekong weighs approximately 5-10 kgs.

5. Prima Fishing

Charter a boat, and spend a few blissful hours on the waters of Prima Fishing. A guide will take you to his “little amazon” where you can experience fishing in the wild. Of course, you can fish from the land but you’ll be miss out on some great adventures.

It is interesting to note that Peacock Bass can be found in this lake, an invasive species that eat almost everything on the food chain. Thus, this species is an angler’s favourite because of their response to lures, or as one might say, mesra gewang.
