The first ever Halal Restaurant Week has just started in Korea and it’s a huge event for all the restaurants in Korea serving Halal food. Starting from 1st of November, this event allows Muslim visitors in Korea to enjoy traditional Korean cuisine and also a variety of different international cuisines from 95 different restaurants for special prices and offers.

Behind this project, the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) has issued a Halal Restaurant coupon book listing all the restaurants in Korea offering Halal food. Restaurants are certified halal, self-certified, or Muslim-friendly. Do note that some may serve alcohol. Visitors can use the coupons in this book to get discounts, free drinks, extra complimentary dishes and also special prizes for participating in SNS promotions; like posting a photo or video on Facebook or Instagram with hashtags.
I started using my coupon book, and was privileged to visit one very classy restaurant in town. Tuscany, is an Italian restaurant located in The Plaza Hotel, Seoul. I chose to go for some nice Italian food because I know it can be delicious and healthy!
This Italian restaurant set inside the hotel is Muslim friendly; it serves 3 different Halal set menus. I chose the second set which costs 110,000 KRW. But as part of the Halal restaurant week promotions, I received a 10% discount, a free drink and also a special gift box of traditional Korean sauces which are Halal.
This promotional event is ongoing til December 10th 2016 across several cities including Seoul, Busan and Incheon. The coupon books are being distributed in various locations including Incheon International Airport and tourist destinations like Insadong and also at the KTO offices. Operating hours: Lunch is served between 11.30 to 2.30PM. Dinner is served between 6-10PM All throughout the week. Reservations must be made in advance.
Directions: Tuscany Restaurant is located inside The Plaza Hotel. Located just outside exit 6 of City Hall Station, The Plaza Hotel is hard to miss. Take a right turn as you exit the station, once through the main entrance turn right and take the escalator, you will see Tuscany Restaurant right before you.
The Halal Restaurant Week is the first ever large scale initiative to promote Halal Food in Korea. KTO wants Muslim travelers to feel at home as much as possible during their visit here, and it is indeed praiseworthy to see the efforts KTO is putting into this cause. It feels like Korea is on it's way to becoming the next most popular destination for Muslim travelers. Looking forward to new doors opening and the exciting culinary adventures that await us!
